2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Follows Mixed Response

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure updated team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a more defined direction.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the entire text from the president's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”

Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a sharper brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the criticism to mind and reimagined the title with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our fans.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, he starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s leadership and experience in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having dedicated the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in receiving Ben next week. We are all excited to keep witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to come.

The President
